The iconic coupe of BMW, under connoisseurs better known as factory code E9. In 1968 introduced in this shape as 2800CS with design by Nuccio Bertone. As seen before in the car industry, it was perfectly fine to let Germans take care of the mechanicals, as long as the car maker made a trip to Italy for a lesson in style. And then after extensively praising of the man's talents and a visit to the local trattoria, one would return back home with a timeless design highly regarded up until this day. A gorgeous coupe made better and better, and faster, by München's best engineers. Only the CSi and very scarcely built CSL were a tad quicker. Unfortunately, BMW opted for Karmann to produce the body shells. Like many other carmakers at the time, the steel used for production is better seen without the label 'German sensibility and quality'. Be very careful for rust then. Since the car was not this costly a prior decade, the costs for proper restorations never met up, therefore it is highly advised to find yourself an original exemplar. This 180bhp strong 3.0CS is such an original car, which benefitted from a purely cosmetically respray and new upholstered interior. The car drives and steers superbly. The CS on introduction was way ahead of its time, quicker than a 911, equipped with power steering, and on behalf of the powerful engine and torque figures very smooth and comfortable to drive. All in all, a long undervalued classic which is now very desirable. It proves to be difficult to find a pretty and affordable exemplar. Study the photographs of this above average looking gorgeous original CS executed in black metallic paint. Tons of atmosphere and driving pleasure for a reasonable price, at least… stated price is today's price. The appreciation of the model is rising; the amount of cars is not. Simple equation then.
BMW makes serious money on their nowadays extensive options list. In the 1970s it could not have been any more different. Standard specification sported power steering, optionally this here 3.0CS is equipped with four electric powered windows. The alloy wheels are also a pretty option. Note the period radio/cassette player.
Straight and solid body. In 2016 the car received a full respray, carried out by a specialist company, photos were taken along the way and bundled in a book. The basis of the car was very healthy indeed, the respray was done purely for cosmetically reasons. Also the inner screens, on inferior exemplar often corroded, are solid. Excellent and dust free paintwork executed by a professional. Perfect fittings, All brightwork in good shiny condition. Tinted glass without traces of usage. The car has a very pretty and outstanding appearance.
A remarkable interior, appears to be nearly 'new-worthy', a given for the car's careful usage. The seats still have their original shape and are not broken, headrests on top. On the floor the original and high quality carpeting is still fitted. The dashboard, door cards, switches, gauges and headlining are all undamaged and in good condition. The car has never been smokes in. The original steering wheel comes with the car, see the photo of the luggage compartment.
The original 3.0ltr carburated engine one finds in the clean and clearly well kept engine bay, to the finest detail. Correct identification plates in their original position. Isolation strips on the inner wings newly fitted on original bodywork. The luggage compartment is spotlessly clean and wholly original. No damages. Equipped with the original toolkit in the therefore designed storage in the boot lid. Full size spare under the boot floor. The alloy wheels are wrapped in excellent tires.
Sold new in 1974 in a Swiss land-climate Imported to the Netherland in 2016. For cosmetic reasons after its Dutch registration directly 'restored' by a Focwa worker. On account of its stylish colour combination, a beautiful appearance. She drives wonderfully, goes through the gears smoothly, runs smoothly and everything functions accordingly. This CS is ready to drive and will in the hands of a loving owner offer many more years of driving pleasure to come.
