Model history

"Gentlemen start your engines" is seldom more apt: the Ferrari 400i is an outstanding Gentleman’s Ferrari from the classic line. And then there's the engine! 12 cylinders in a V-shape derived from the world renowned Colombo engine block that also serves as the foundation for the famous 365GTB/4 Daytona. Add to this the Ferrari 400’s highly stylish lines, which are only gaining in appreciation, as after all a sports car design from the 1980s made quite a different impression ten years ago than it does today. Moreover, she was also less of a classic then as she is now. Based on the 365GT4 2 + 2, which was already launched in 1972, this ‘1970s design' was ahead of its time, and perhaps this is why her value has continued to rise of late. Only 422 of these models with manual transmission were ever built, and such rarity has also contributed to its sharp appreciation in recent years. And rightly so, with so much value for money on offer: the beautiful Pininfarina design, stylish interior finished in the finest leather and genuine wood, reliable V12 with Bosch injection, distribution chains and impressive handling…and all for a reasonable price. The stylish color combination combined with the light-colored interior is a feast for the eyes. Originally from a collection in Italy, this 400i has also never experienced high humidity. A truly original and beautiful model.

Not very many options were available at that time, although, unsurprisingly, given how much she cost originally, the car came replete with an all-leather interior and genuine wood detailing. Air conditioning came as standard, as did the beautiful alloy wheels and power windows.

A stylish dark gray metallic body without a notable sign of wear anywhere. Nicely tight metal sheeting, never damaged. No rust. Was professionally repainted only once and then solely for cosmetic reasons. Not a single chip in the paintwork. The bumpers are flawless, free of parking scrapes. The extremely difficult to find front indicator lights are like new. All windows are original and undamaged. The overall impression of this 400i is one of exceptional beauty, class and style.

This 400i’s interior is completely original - only the floor mats were renewed once and remain in pristine condition. The beautiful, ivory-colored seats are also pristine and retain their original shape. Nothing worn out. The attractive door panels, dashboard, switches and knobs are all flawless. The genuine wooden center console shines beautifully. The leather-covered steering wheel is smooth and flawless. Non-smoker.

Enginecompartment, trunk space, wheels & tires

The original 310hp, V12 engine with dual Bosch injection, wet-sump, adjustable timing belts and overhead camshafts is beautifully encased in the sleek engine compartment. All pristine, just as it was when she first left the factory: plates, stickers and hood insulation all proper and present. The engine runs beautifully, no smoke, excellent oil pressure. The trunk – wholly original with flawless upholstery – contains the full-size spare tire and car tools/jack. The fine Cromodora wheels have good Michelin TRX tires all around.

History file

Sold new in 1982 by an official Ferrari dealer in Rome, Italy. At the time, the 400i was a very expensive car, and hence was always excellently maintained, which is still clear to see today and exemplified by the beautifully cultured engine, superior handling and complete lack of any odd noises emanating from the body or engine. This 400i, which has had only three, highly responsible owners, comes with all the proper manuals and service booklets. The car has always remained original and was never damaged. All in all a true classic, just as it should be, with an outstanding price/quality ratio. The purchase price includes Dutch registration, new MOT and servicing. Hence, ready for the road.
