The W107 series of Mercedes Benz has grown into a highly searched after classic, generally considered to be one of the prettiest designs of the famous manufacturer. In many Hollywood films the car stars, she is a Prima Donna to the core, which in this case is a positive trait. The entire series characterizes not just by pretty looks. They also stand for reliability and comfortable driving characteristics, of which the last models in the series (from 1985 and on); the 300 and 500SL, are known to be the best driving. Since the 300SL weighs less and is more economical, she is the most looked after model. You will find a car that appeals to many, and grows in appreciation is often tinkered with and priced opportunistically. Yes, you have guessed, not this 300SL. It concerns a beautiful and original car from a private collection. In above average condition. Very well driving. The automatic gearbox changes gears smoothly with no noticeable sounds or setbacks. A characteristic of neglected maintenance on older Mercedes cars is the noticeable change and sounds in gears when shifting. The nicely smooth-running engine is good for hundreds of thousands of kilometres to come. This above average example remains nearly completely in first paint, it concerns a highly original car with ditto appearance. The dark brown convertible roof has been renewed recently. Especially the later versions of the W107 series are modern driving cars, making them more suitable for more regular, or even daily usage. On behalf of low taxes and road tax for these cars also attractive as company liability car. One of the best features of a 300SL W107 are the classic looks minus the disadvantages that come with classic cars. Cryptic but certainly true.
In 1988 Mercedes had no extensive options lists to turn a profit. There was however cruise control, a centre armrest, dark brown leather, true wood on the dashboard, an electric powered mirror on the right, an original Becker radio, alloy wheels and a hardtop.
One of the most amazing Mercedes colours, was opted for by the initial owner in 1988; Rauchsilber Metallic. Very stylish and excellently suited for an SL. The car has a beautiful appearance; the colour forms a nice contrast with the convertible roof. The car has no significant traces of usage and excels in paint quality. Not one dent or stone chip to be found. The paint has a beautiful deep lustre. The body is completely rust free and original. The convertible roof is new. Also the windows remain nicely transparent. The hardtop executed in body colour is also undamaged and features a clean headlining. Perfect fittings, bumpers nicely straight and well fitted to the car. All the glazing is undamaged and original.
Also the interior of this SL is in excellent and original condition. Nothing in the interior shows signs of excessive usage. The interior mirrors that of a car with minor usage. The seats have no signs of getting in and out of the car, and the shape is fully original. The carpeting is nicely clean, and the mats are as new. The in-leather upholstered steering wheel is nicely tight, switches are all fresh and function accordingly. On the whole, there are no damages whatsoever concerning the interior. Enthusiasts car!
Very fresh and clean engine compartment. Here one finds the strong and highly reliable six-cylinder with injection. Economical, sporty, but also comfortable, that is what this engine in the SL has to offer. The mechanicals are evidently maintained very well. No neglected repairs. In the luggage compartment everything appears nicely clean and original. Under the load floor a full-size spare wheel and toolset. The four alloy wheels are wrapped in excellent Michelin tires.
European delivered car in original, damage- and rust-free condition. Bought new in 1988, on the occasion of the initial owner's 50th birthday. Fifteen years later he sold the car to the second owner, since 2005 she has been with the lady of whom I bought the car. The last series W107 is loved amongst aficionados for the relatively modern driving characteristics and reliability. You can cruise through Europe easily with this lovely touring car. The convertible roof is easy to put up and fold down. An optional windscreen keeps you almost fully shielded from wind and closed she does not lead in any (truly) wind or water. There is a big luggage compartment. In short, not just pretty to look at, practical too. More and more enthusiasts have discovered the positive qualities of the W107 and that is exactly what makes them so popular. Good for the value development. And especially fun to own and drive.. She will be delivered with a warranty, new MOT, and a service.
