Mercedes connoisseurs know it, the R129 series is the most reliable SL, in particular the second facelift which was unveiled in 1999. Readily fitted with engines that would find their way to the successive models, however minus the sensitive computers that gave them a bad reputation. A few optical details show whether you are dealing with this sought-after example from the last series; chrome rings around the gauges, soft unperforated nappa leather on the seats, a revised steering wheel, and newly designed bumpers are the giveaways to distinguish the last model. Under the bonnet various techniques of the successive model were readily applied. This SL320 received a 224bhp strong and silky smooth V6 attached to the most reliable automatic ZF gearbox in the world. The R129 was readily equipped from before the facelift with an automatic rollover-protection system and a fully electric opening convertible roof. With a reputation of premium roadster, the SL was fitted as standard with an electronic attaching hardtop, automatic climate control, airbags and alloy wheels, this special example, with a mere 55.000km on the rather pretty gauge is additionally equipped with cruise control, fully electric adjustable seats, an electric adjustable steering wheel, Mercedes radio, central locking with key fob, and more. Evidently this example is wholly original, visually in new-condition and comes with an extensive history-file. It concerns a European car which I acquired from the first owner. Will be delivered with a new MOT, warranty and a service.
